Octave Merlier

Octave Merlier (Greek Οκτάβιος Μερλιέ, 1897–1996) was an expert on the Modern Greek language.

Merlier was born at Roubaix. In Paris from 1918-19 he studied at the Sorbonne and École pratique des hautes études under the tutelage of Antonius Meillet and Joseph Vendyres.

He served as director of the Institut français d'Athènes from 1938-1961. In 1923 he married Melpo Logothete, noted for her collection of Modern Greek folk songs.
